The Business Times: Nominations open for EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards

THE annual EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards are open for nomination from Monday (Mar 14) till May 9 this year.

The awards started in 2002 to recognise outstanding entrepreneurs. To date, over 80 business leaders have been awarded.

The nominees will be assessed by an independent judging panel across 4 criteria: entrepreneurial spirit, growth, purpose and impact, said the professional services firm in a media release on Monday.

Those who excel across the 4 criteria will receive award titles that reflect their unique qualities or achievements.

The individual who ranks the highest across all 4 criteria will be selected as the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2022 Singapore. The person will then represent the city-state at the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year award next year.

The theme for the awards this year is “The Unstoppables” and the public, as well as the business community, are encouraged to nominate outstanding entrepreneurs for the award at www.ey.com/sg/eoy.

The founders of biotechnology startup MiRXES, who won last year’s EY Entreprenuer of the Year for Singapore, will be representing Singapore at the world award to compete with about 60 other countries in June this year.

They are co-founder and chief executive Zhou Lihan, co-founder and chief technology officer Zou Ruiyang and chief information officer Isaac Ho.

EY’s managing partner for Singapore and Brunei Max Loh said that entrepreneurs play an important role in energising the economy and workforce more than ever as Singapore works towards recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We look forward to celebrating the ambition, purpose and resilience of our leading entrepreneurs and the sustained impact that they are making to their business and ecosystem of stakeholders,” he said.

EY will also present the EY Family Business Award of Excellence this year. The award recipient will be selected based on the family enterprise’s ability to successfully balance business and family issues, grow the business and show responsibility for others through philanthropic or social engagements.

Knowledge partners Business Families Institute @ Singapore Management University and the Wendel International Centre for Family Enterprise, Insead, will select the winner.

This is an honorary award presented for the 10th year and the award recipient does not compete for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2022 Singapore title.

The Singapore Exchange continues as a partner for the awards for the third year.

The Business Times, The Edge Singapore and Portfolio Magazine are the official media partners, and it is supported by Action Community for Entrepreneurship, Enterprise Singapore, the Singapore Business Federation and SkillsFuture Singapore.
